One Night Only! Steve Earle, Joan Osborne, Jackie Greene, Anders Osborne, Steve Forbert and special guest Jason Crosby come together on the Count Basie Theater stage for an acoustic evening of songwriters in the round – solo and together!  This unforgettable evening of old fashioned tune trading is dedicated to the memory of Marie and Fred Hope with concert proceeds benefiting the Blue Rose Foundation and its early childhood education initiatives.

About Blue Rose Foundation:
The Blue Rose Foundation was created to honor the memories of our family members, friends, teachers, and mentors. To pay tribute to those who inspired us, we support programs that give children the ability to reach new heights of success. Reaching at-risk children early is crucial to this success. Through the support of the Blue Rose Foundation and its fundraising, the scholarships provided go directly to families in need, and have deeply affected the lives of numerous local families.  For more information, please visit www.bluerosesonoma.org.

See below for details. Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation. He’s spent over a decade sharing the stage with some of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras – from Sydney, Australia to the Kennedy Center, performing his pop hits and his critically acclaimed concerto for Piano and Orchestra. Throughout his career, Folds has created an enormous body of genre-bending musical art that includes pop albums as the front man for Ben Folds Five, multiple solo rock albums, as well as unique collaborative records with artists from Sara Bareilles and Regina Spektor, to Weird Al and William Shatner. His most recent album is a blend of pop and classical original works, in part recorded with the revered classical sextet yMusic that soared to #1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts. Throughout 2017, Folds will continue to pound pianos with cross country solo touring reminiscent of his earliest solo tour, where he defied skeptics by delivering a high energy rock performance using the intimacy of just a piano. His tour schedule will also include a series of orchestral performances where he will showcase his piano concerto and pop hits. Presented by Count Basie Theatre and The Bowery Presents

On his last solo tour, critics across the US were raving about his performance. Consequence of Sound said, “Hearing Ray LaMontagne perform live is a poignant and magical experience,” while The Boston Herald raved, “LaMontagne's voice remains a marvel, quiet and reflective one minute and forceful and impassioned the next. It really is an amazing instrument.” Ray LaMontagne has released 6 studio albums, 5 of which have reached Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart and Billboard’s Digital Albums chart.  Additionally, Ray’s 2010 album God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise won the Grammy for Best Folk Album and was nominated in the coveted Song of The Year category for “Beg Steal or Borrow.” Ray’s vast sonic catalogue has been called everything from “a perfect throwback to the lost art of the album-length format,” from Entertainment Weekly to “epic and magical,” from Rolling Stone and “gorgeous and ambitious,” from Esquire. Two young lovers are torn apart by a twist of fate and struggle to reunite. With Mexican folk dances, classical ballet, and live music, Calpulli’s story explores the boundary between the world of living and those dearly departed who live in Mictlán- the underworld of Aztec mythology- where the mesmerizing Catrina reigns as queen. Following its acclaimed performances at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and residency at Queens Theatre, Calpulli Mexican Dance Company reprises Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), by Artistic Director, Alberto Lopez Herrera, Choreographer-in-Residence, Roberto Lara, and Music Director, George Saenz. The company of 20 dancers, guest performers, and core of musicians will take audiences on a voyage from a festive town in Mexico to the beautiful world of the afterlife. The special performance at Count Basie Theatre will feature the participation of students from Calpulli Community- a program for youth and adults featuring Mexican folk dance classes- which is also hosted at the theatre. “It cannot be emphasized enough how special this production is, providing an educational experience to those not fully aware of the depth and diversity of Mexican culture and dance.” – NY Examiner Community Ofrenda: As part of the celebration, the Basie will host a community ofrenda in its lobby from Wednesday, Oct. 25 through Saturday, Oct. 28. Literally translated as an “offering,” an ofrenda is a collection of objects placed on a ritual altar during the Day of the Dead celebration. The Basie invites members of the community to honor a loved one by providing a photograph, symbolic item or token to be placed on the communal altar. Candles are prohibited, and monetary or personal items are discouraged as items may not be returnable.

Starting with their 1st offering in 2010 of Workingman’s Dead/American Beauty cover to cover, note for note show, to the adventurous note-perfect 2015 presentation of Terrapin Station, complete with symphony, DOL has left almost no stone unturned in the Dead’s 50-year history! Over the last 30 years, Halloween weekend and the Grateful Dead have come to be known for their historic run of shows that brought acoustic Dead back to life in 1980’s Radio City Music Hall shows! This majestic run of shows set the stage for the touring machine the Grateful Dead were to become for the rest of their career, widening their audience and becoming the highest grossing touring band in history. This year DOL endeavors to recreate the music, the sights, and sounds of this classic run of Dead shows with their stellar class of world class musicians specialized in this wonderful era. Acoustic gems like Cassidy, Birdsong and Ripple followed by full electric double drumming set featuring Jack Straw, Ramble On Rose and more. On This Sweet Old World, Williams is supported by her touring and studio band: guitarist Stuart Mathis, bassist David Sutton, and drummer Butch Norton. Longtime collaborator Greg Leisz – who participated in early sessions for the 1992 album, and co-produced Williams’ most recent studio releases, The Ghosts of Highway 20 (2016) and Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone (2014) – contributes spectacular guitar work. While Sweet Old World featured guest instrumentalists, This Sweet Old World eschews additional players, utilizing just the muscular band and Leisz. We performed Wilburys songs, and we played music from Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, and Tom Petty. Tom Petty. God bless Tom Petty. He was one of the great American singer-songwriters, maybe one of the last great American singer-songwriters. His music has always affected me, and always will. On Nov. 5, we'll gather again at the Basie for Runnin' Down A Dream: A Tribute To Tom Petty. We'll donate a portion of proceeds to MusiCares, which earlier this year named Tom as its “Person Of The Year.” MusicCares is an industry organization that helps musicians when they need it the most. In 2016, MusiCares spent more than $4.2 million helping more than 16,000 clients with a plethora of needs, from medical care to substance abuse treatment to housing and emergency instrument or equipment issues. On Nov. 5, we will pay tribute to a master and celebrate songs that defined a generation.
