string(1679) "Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Ray LaMontagne returns to the stage on his Just Passing Through acoustic tour.  The tour marks the first acoustic tour for Ray in 5 years and will be highlighting songs from his vast and varying body of work.  Joining Ray on the tour will be John Stirratt from Wilco on acoustic bass.  The two will be playing songs spanning across Ray’s albums including Trouble, Till The Sun Turns Black, Gossip in the Grain, God Willin’ & The Creek Don’t Rise, Supernova and Ouroboros.

On his last solo tour, critics across the US were raving about his performance. Consequence of Sound said, “Hearing Ray LaMontagne perform live is a poignant and magical experience,” while The Boston Herald raved, “LaMontagne's voice remains a marvel, quiet and reflective one minute and forceful and impassioned the next. It really is an amazing instrument.”

Ray LaMontagne has released 6 studio albums, 5 of which have reached Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart and Billboard’s Digital Albums chart.  Additionally, Ray’s 2010 album God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise won the Grammy for Best Folk Album and was nominated in the coveted Song of The Year category for “Beg Steal or Borrow.”

Ray’s vast sonic catalogue has been called everything from “a perfect throwback to the lost art of the album-length format,” from Entertainment Weekly to “epic and magical,” from Rolling Stone and “gorgeous and ambitious,” from Esquire.

string(2284) "Calpulli Mexican Dance Company presents "Dia de los Muertos,” a universal love story inspired by the colors and sentiment of the native Mexican tradition. Two young lovers are torn apart by a twist of fate and struggle to reunite. With Mexican folk dances, classical ballet, and live music, Calpulli’s story explores the boundary between the world of living and those dearly departed who live in Mictlán- the underworld of Aztec mythology- where the mesmerizing Catrina reigns as queen.

Following its acclaimed performances at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and residency at Queens Theatre, Calpulli Mexican Dance Company reprises Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), by Artistic Director, Alberto Lopez Herrera, Choreographer-in-Residence, Roberto Lara, and Music Director, George Saenz. The company of 20 dancers, guest performers, and core of musicians will take audiences on a voyage from a festive town in Mexico to the beautiful world of the afterlife.

The special performance at Count Basie Theatre will feature the participation of students from Calpulli Community- a program for youth and adults featuring Mexican folk dance classes- which is also hosted at the theatre.

“It cannot be emphasized enough how special this production is, providing an educational experience to those not fully aware of the depth and diversity of Mexican culture and dance.”

Community Ofrenda: As part of the celebration, the Basie will host a community ofrenda in its lobby from Wednesday, Oct. 25 through Saturday, Oct. 28. Literally translated as an “offering,” an ofrenda is a collection of objects placed on a ritual altar during the Day of the Dead celebration. The Basie invites members of the community to honor a loved one by providing a photograph, symbolic item or token to be placed on the communal altar. Candles are prohibited, and monetary or personal items are discouraged as items may not be returnable.

On This Sweet Old World, Williams is supported by her touring and studio band: guitarist Stuart Mathis, bassist David Sutton, and drummer Butch Norton. Longtime collaborator Greg Leisz – who participated in early sessions for the 1992 album, and co-produced Williams’ most recent studio releases, The Ghosts of Highway 20 (2016) and Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone (2014) – contributes spectacular guitar work. While Sweet Old World featured guest instrumentalists, This Sweet Old World eschews additional players, utilizing just the muscular band and Leisz. Stripped of their countrified arrangements, the songs “Prove My Love” and “Memphis Pearl” shine anew. They have been playing together for more than fifteen years. First as young thrash metal fans in their native Mexico City, then as innocents abroad and street musicians in Dublin, Ireland at the turn of the millennium, and finally as the globe-straddling, film-scoring, record-breaking artists they are today. Known for exhilarating live shows, Rodrigo y Gabriela have won the hearts of music lovers from the haciendas of Cuba to the Hollywood Bowl and festival fields of Europe, as they continue to weave their unique six-string magic. The extraordinary interplay between Sanchez's fiery lead lines and Quintero's phenomenal rhythmic battery is truly universal. The duo has reloaded their arsenal following the April 2014 worldwide release of “9 Dead Alive”, their first studio album in five years. The new songs are intimate, the playing intuitive, and the results are spectacular, bursting with melodic energy and rhythmic invention. With career sales in excess of 1.5 million albums, blockbuster movie scores, and sold out tours worldwide, Rodrigo y Gabriela have certainly made their mark. Their appeal is boundless, their scope limitless, and the music timeless; clearly, we have only begun to see what this duo is capable of. He motions for a soda water and sits there staring at his drink. The year was 1998 and Puddles had wandered into the Star Community Bar in Atlanta, GA where bartender Big Mike Geier first laid eyes on the sad, silent clown. Today the two close friends travel all over with Puddles Pity Party, Mike speaking on behalf of Puddles since the clown chooses to stay silent. The softhearted crooner continues to wander the world with melancholic pop anthems and free hugs for all the party people. Though his suitcase is packed with plenty of Kleenex, the show is not entirely about sadness and longing. Puddles’ set is peppered with a brilliant sense of the absurd, mixing lots of humor with the awkward, tender moments. “Puddles gives an emotive performance that resonates with all kinds of folks,” says Geier. “The crowd really responds to him. There’s something about a giant sad singing clown that comforts us, let’s us know it’s ok to feel. And the fellowship he creates brings joy. It’s a sad and beautiful world, and we’re all in it together, even when we’re totally alone.” This show was originally advertised as occuring on Nov. 5.
