Count Basie Center Accessibility Statement

 

The Count Basie Center’s policy is to provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities who are employees, applicants for employment, customers and users of the theater. The Basie adheres to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines with respect to providing reasonable accommodations as required to afford equal opportunity to qualified individuals with disabilities. Reasonable accommodations shall be provided in a timely and cost effective manner. The Count Basie Center strives to provide all patrons with an enjoyable experience in clean, safe and accommodating surroundings. The Basie Center’s historic theater offers accessible seating in all sections of the orchestra level, automatic doors at the main entrance and ADA restroom, and ADA appropriate-height counters at all concessions locations. Large print programs and assisted listening devices are available upon request for most shows. Our website posts the services available to make for a positive experience. We require ample notification in the event seats need to be removed to accommodate patrons. Service animals are welcome and sign language interpreters are available upon request. Accessibility

The Count Basie Center strives to provide all patrons with an enjoyable experience in clean, safe and accommodating surroundings. The Basie is wheelchair accessible and accommodating for patrons who have limited mobility or who have visual and/or hearing impairments. Seating

Accessible seating in the historic theater is provided in various locations (and various price levels) throughout the orchestra, including: in the Right Orchestra, 2 positions in Row A, 1 position in Row Q and 2 positions in Row DD; in the Left Orchestra, 2 positions in Row A, 1 position in Row Q and 2 positions in Row DD; in the Center Orchestra, 2 positions in Row J; and in the Rear Orchestra, 4 positions in Row AA, which is a raised platform. Companion seating for all these positions is also provided. The balcony and loge sections of the historic theater are not wheelchair accessible. ADA seats are available direct from the box office. Automatic Entrance

An automatic door opener is located on the far left exterior door (easily operated by pushing) and will lead you to the lobby. Please be aware that our staff is available to assist you, whenever possible.

 


 

Restrooms

The wheelchair accessible restroom is located at the far end of the interior lobby, under the stairway.

 


 

Water

Water is available at all of our concession stands, and may be requested free of charge if a patron requires it for medications. Please ask our staff if you require assistance.

 


 

Concession Stands

Upon request from visually impaired individuals, concession stand sales personnel will verbally provide price information. Sales personnel will be happy to retrieve merchandise for patrons who require assistance. Concession stands are located on the lower level of the theater. Note: Seating in the balcony and loge levels of the historic theater is not accessible to wheelchairs. A souvenir concession stand is located in the lower lobby.

 


 

Service Animals/Guide Dogs

Service animals are welcome at the Count Basie Center. In order to avoid hazardous situations, they will rest in the patron’s seating area during the performance.

 


 

Emergency Evacuation Procedures

Basie personnel have been thoroughly trained in emergency evacuation procedures to ensure the safe evacuation of all patrons, including those patrons with disabilities, in the case of an emergency.

 


 

Sign Language

ASL sign-interpreters are available upon request with at least 3 weeks advance notice. Please contact the box office at 732.842.9000 to request an interpreter.

 


 

Assistive Listening Devices

Assistive listening technology is accessible via the Wavecast App, which patrons can download to their phones. Patrons may ask to speak to the House Manager in order to connect to the proper wi-fi network.

 


 

Wheelchairs

The Center provides barrier-free access for patrons using wheelchairs or walkers. On-grade entrances, railings, and wide doorways allow people easy access. Patrons wishing to transfer from a wheelchair or walker to a seat can request to have their wheelchair or walker stored during the performance. Please inform the staff if you will need assistance during intermission. A staff member will return your wheelchair or walker to you at the end of the performance. An accessible restroom with automatic door is also available.

Should you require any accommodation that will help make your visit more comfortable, please contact the Box Office at least a week in advance so that we can make the proper arrangements. When you arrive at the theater, please notify the House Manager and they will be happy to assist you. Please note: Mezzanine seating is not accessible for patrons using wheelchairs, or those with limited mobility.
