Mark Knopfler first came to our attention in 1977 as the lead guitarist and vocalist for Dire Straits, whose first hit was “Sultans of Swing” from their debut release. They followed it with 5 more studio albums yielding hits like “Money for Nothing,” “Skateaway,” “Industrial Disease,” “So Far Away,” “Money for Nothing” and “Walk of Life.” Since Dire Straits disbanded in 1995, Knopfler is now known simply as one of the world’s great guitar players and songwriters, ranked #27 on Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list. He’s released 7 solo albums and scored films like Local Hero, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Wag the Dog and The Princess Bride. A 4-time Grammy winner with 3 more nominations, he’s sold over 120 million albums.
