John Prine is one of the most influential songwriters of his generation, “A songwriter’s songwriter,” (Rolling Stone) and, “A born story teller,” (NY Times). He’s never had a Top 40 hit, but 11 of his 16 studio albums cracked the Top 200. Three of his songs, “Angel from Montgomery,” “Paradise,” and “Hello in There” appear on Folk Alley’s 100 Most Essential Folk Songs. He’s won the Best Contemporary Folk Album Grammy twice, for The Missing Years (1991) and Fair and Square (2005). He’s a Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, a BBC Radio Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and recipient of two Americana Music Awards, Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting and Artist of the Year (2005). His fan club includes Bob Dylan, Roger Waters and Billy Bob Thornton. His songs have been recorded by Delbert McLinton (“Baby Ruth”), John Mellencamp (“Jackie O”), Manfred Mann (“Pretty Good”), Loretta Lynn (“Somewhere Someone’s Falling In Love”), Paul Westerberg (“Souvenirs”) and the late Johnny Cash (“Unwed Fathers”), to name just a few of hundreds. His latest release is Standard Song for Average People (2007), an International Bluegrass Music Awards Recorded Event of the Year nominee.
SARA WATKINS, formerly of the band NICKEL CREEK, will be the Opening Act.
