What is the Count Basie Theatre Cinema Society? Quite simply, it’s the best thing to happen to movies since popcorn. For just $50 a year, you and a guest are afforded entry to all of the theatre’s film screenings – from Hollywood blockbusters to groundbreaking documentaries – and everything in between. You’ll also receive a complimentary regular popcorn at each screening.
Where can I find out about upcoming films? Members will receive exclusive Cinema Society emails, while countbasietheatre.org will also list all of our upcoming films and events. Films will typically be announced at least 4-6 weeks before their show date.
How often will I be able to use my Cinema Society membership? We promise to screen at least one film a month. We’ll even hold a few “Society Choice” nights where members can vote for films they’d like to see! In addition once a year, we’ll hold a complimentary Cinema Society Members reception in our upstairs lobby on a screening evening.
How do I become a member of the Count Basie Theatre Cinema Society? Simple. Click here and purchase your membership like you would any other ticket. You will receive a Membership Card which will grant you access to film screenings and will afford you one free popcorn at each event. It’s that easy! Memberships will automatically renew annually unless otherwise directed.
How do I claim my Membership Card and my tickets to a Cinema Society film? If you are attending a Cinema Society event for the first time you can claim you Membership card at the box office with valid matching ID. You will use your membership card to redeem your tickets and to receive a complimentary regular-sized popcorn at each Cinema Society Event. Simply go to the box office the night of a Cinema Society Film and show your Membership Card to claim your pair of tickets.
Two tickets to every screening? That’s great – but what if we want to invite more friends? No problem! Extra tickets are just $5 (unless otherwise posted) and available at the door the night of the screening, or in advance at countbasietheatre.org with no added fees. Like all our films, there are no reserved seats – so you and your group can sit anywhere they’d like downstairs or in the Orchestra once they arrive at the theatre.
Do we need to reserve our seats in advance? Most Cinema Society events are General Admission unless otherwise noted. If an event requires reserved seating you can simply call or visit the box office to reserve your seats.
Is my Cinema Society membership transferable? It is not, but as we said – tickets for our films are just $5, and we promise to show a variety of films to suit most anyone’s taste throughout the year.
Will that variety of films include titles that are perhaps unsuitable for children? We enforce MPAA ratings at the theatre – so children will not be admitted to an ‘R’ rated feature without a parent or adult. However, our goal is to show films that not only appeal to a variety of tastes, but also reflect our status as a community-oriented center for the performing arts.
