The class covers vocal warm-ups, proper breathing, musical theatre styles and interpretation of lyrics. Broadway here you come! Monday Senior Broadway Vocal 5-6:30pm Ages:11-16 Fee:$255 Instructor: Marcy DeGonge Manfredi Whether you are considering a career in musical theatre or just wish to learn how to "sell" a song, this class is invaluable. For experienced and beginner performers alike, the class focuses on musical theatre style, characterization, interpretation of lyrics, and will include vocal warm-ups. This class concentrates on the soloist with additional time spent on ensemble singing. Build confidence and stage techniques while developing the skills required of a good actor. Beginner Acting Techniques 6-7:30pm Ages:9-14 Fee:$255 Instructor: Noelle Martines This course includes script work, improvisation, scene study, monologues, voice projection and theatre games. Students will develop self-expression and creative use of the imagination in this motivating introduction to Acting for the stage. Acting Techniques II 4-5pm Ages:8-11 Fee:$170 Instructor: Robin Oddo Take your basic acting skills to the next level through the use of improvisation, script work, prop usage and scene study. Students will develop auditioning skills and the “how-to” of delivering a monologue. Basie Performance Troupe…Traveling Showcase 4-6pm Ages:10-18 Fee:$325 Instructors: Robin Oddo & Yvonne Scudiery (Acceptance Through Audition Only) Audition Dates: Wednesday September 24th 5:00 pm This talented troupe of young performers travels throughout the area to entertain audiences at senior residences and nursing facilities. Actors and singers interested in auditioning should prepare a monologue and a song. Accepted actors must be available for performances. Past participants will be evaluated based on professionalism and commitment to the art and asked to re-audition for acceptance into the Showcase Revue. IMPROVISATION 7:30-9pm Ages:Teen/Adult Fee:$255 Instructor: Melanie Taylor Have a favorite stand-up comedian? Love Saturday Night Live and Whose Line is it Anyway? Have fun exploring and learning accents and body movement with freedom from scripts! Try acting "off the cuff" with Improv. It is a fun way to try all kinds of skits and characters. Gain confidence improve acting and speaking skills in this fast paced setting with expert guidance. Students will use scripts geared to challenge and stimulate the imagination. This is an excellent introduction to the "real" world of television and film. Students will work on-camera and then have the opportunity to view and evaluate their work. Acting Techniques for film/TV 5-6:30pm Ages:10-14 Fee:$255 Instructor: Megan Sambataro Learn the craft of acting for the camera. Explore the types of shots and camera techniques that are used in today's acting industry. Study actual scripts from television and film. Explore the unique subtleties of film making and become well versed with the styles and language used on today's movie or television sets. Students will work on-camera and then have the opportunity to view and evaluate their work. Teen/Adult Acting For TV and Film 6:30-8pm Ages:15/Adult Fee:$255 Instructor: Megan Sambataro Work with scripts from television, film, and Broadway. While acting on camera student will gain experience in audition techniques, reading commercial copy, speech, diction and dialects, movement and methods of relaxation. FRIDAY CLASSES 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 10/31, 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12/5, 12/12 dialects and Accents 6:15-7:15pm Ages:11/Adult Fee:$170 Instructor: Ralph Colombino Actors are regularly confronted with the challenge of auditioning or performing with an accent or dialect. Being familiar with a number of accents and dialects enhances your resume, and makes you a more competitive performer equipped with the tools necessary to address challenges as they arise. Course will cover Standard British, British Cockney, American Southern and Brooklyn. ACTING 101:The Meisner Technique 7:15-8:45pm Ages:13/Adult Fee:$255 Instructor: Ralph Colombino “Acting is the ability to live truthfully under imaginary circumstances." This class provides a practical, problem-solving approach to acting for film and television. Class curriculum includes an analysis of the differences between theatre, film and television acting. Course will instruct students how to develop techniques (Meisner based) for creating a natural, believable performance for film and television. A panel of director’s, actors and educators will observe a final class performance and offer feedback and suggestions for advancement and acceptance into the Intermediate/Advanced Level to be offered in the Winter Session. ROCKIT FOR KIDS ... A ROCK BAND PROGRAM Ages 8-16 Fees: Audition $10.00 (Due with application) Program: $290 (includes $10.00 registration fee) Instructor: Bruce Gallipani & Rockit Staff Acceptance and placement through audition. Vocalists, Drummers, Guitarists, Bass Guitarists, Keyboardists, Brass and String players are encouraged to complement their private studies with our live program. This program gives young musicians an instant opportunity to play Rock & Roll with their peers, bringing them together to perform live as a band and experience the dynamics of working together to achieve a common goal. All band classes are 55 minutes long and taught by qualified instructors. After the initial audition (and orientation class) the musicians will be divided into bands and for the next 6 weeks each band will rehearse. Audition Requirements and Procedure: Date: Sept.13, 2008 - You will be assigned a time when your application is received. Location: Street level classroom-3 doors to right of Box Office All students must be currently studying with an instructor and/or have a good musical knowledge of their instrument. All students must perform a two-minute selection that best represents their style and ability. Vocalists may audition with a karaoke CD musical accompaniment or sing acapella. Singing along with a prerecorded cd with vocals is not permitted. All other musicians may audition with live or CD accompaniment, or solo. Students are expected to bring their own guitars, drumsticks, brass and string instruments. All other equipment is provided. Students must attend all rehearsals unless extenuating circumstances should occur and all students must perform in the end of semester concert. If your child is interested in joining Rockit, please complete the attached application and return it with a $10 audition fee made payable to: The Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth Street, Red Bank NJ 07701 You will be notified of your child's audition time one week prior to Sept 13. The workshops, which have gained national acclaim, are designed to guide the novice and intermediate screenwriter through the process of creating a working screenplay. Cinematic structure, pitching techniques, and getting the completed screenplay into the hands of film industry decision makers are included in this weekend seminar. CINEMATIC STRUCTURE AND SCREENWRITING WEEKEND (Two-session course) Friday, January 16 - 6pm-9:30pm Saturday, January 17th - 10am-5pm (bagels and coffee served) Ages:16 – Adult Fee: $220 In this intensive session, aspiring screenwriters will take an in-depth look at cinematic structure and character development. Friday Evening: While screening a film selected by the group, writers will examine structural elements required for cinematic storytelling. Saturday and Sunday: Writers will examine the art of the pitch, identifying effective "log lines", how to map out a cinematic story in outline format and the process of screenwriting.  Peter Fox - Peter began his career as a Story Analyst at major Hollywood studios. He founded The Inside Track Workshops and has helped hundreds of novice and experienced screenwriters develop their skills and provide them with the tools to present their work as only a true Hollywood insider can. POP SINGERS WORKSHOP (8-Week program) First class February 7th 1-2:30pm Ages: 13 – Adult Fee: $215 Instructor: Rosemary Conte Class emphasis on technique for vocal range used in pop styles including rock, pop, jazz and theater. Learn how to protect and maintain your voice. Class combines technique and performance habits to perfect voice and stage presence. Learn to add emotion and feeling to your vocal delivery so you connect with your audience. Participants may perform in the Student Showcase on the Count Basie Theatre Stage, April 1, 2009. Rosemary Conte – Rosemary’s name has long been associated with the best musicians from New Jersey and particularly the Jersey Shore. She spent many years teaching singing and songwriting as well as being a working singer who has performed and recorded with some of the world’s greatest musicians. This experience has enabled her students to go on to become Broadway performers, signed pop artists, busy jazz singers and winners of teen competitions. Today, in dual careers---singer/teacher and clinical hypnotherapist, she brings another dimension to the art by helping students gain freedom from creative inhibitions and make positive changes in their lives. In addition to her private practice, Rosemary has taught workshops at colleges, high schools, and elementary schools and is a former adjunct professor of voice at Monmouth University. Life-long artists’ advocate, Rosemary created and directed the seminal organization for musicians and singers, All Music Inc. and produced its companion publication and live shows. She is one of a handful of original organizers of the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Festival. THE COOL SCHOOL OFFERS AN ONGOING PARENT-CHILD PROGRAGRAM FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM. DISCOVERING THE CREATIVE SPIRIT WITHIN A Workshop for Children with Autism and their Parents Ongoing program Parent/Child Workshops (children 8-12 years old) Fee: $245 (8-weeks) Instructor: Robyn Ellenbogen A new workshop specifically designed to develop and encourage the creative abilities of children with autism. This course will be a unique family experience involving music, theatre and the visual arts.
