ROCKIT! LIVE FOUNDATION SUMMER BAND CAMP

Join Rockit! At The Basie this summer and explore the dynamics of playing in a band and how to audition and perform with confidence and discipline. Students will form their own bands and choose their own songs, learn improvisation and music theory, receive audio recordings of their work and interact through activities like “Name That Riff” and rock and roll trivia. All the while, students will experience firsthand why Rockit! has produced students who have gone on to compete on NBC’s The Voice and Fox’s The X-Factor, perform with artists like Keith Urban and Steve Vai, and produce superstars like The Voice’s Jacquie Lee. Each week will culminate with a live concert for family and friends.

BROADWAY BLOCKBUSTERS

The focus of this camp? Those famous, show-stomping Broadway songs and dances famous for bringing crowds to their feet! Script work, staging,singing and musical theater acting techniques will all be incorporated into this high-energy experience. The session concludes with an in-class performance for parents and friends.

MUSICAL THEATER KIDS

In this camp, students will dance, sing and act under the direction multi-talented performer / educator Meredith McGee. Music from Broadway and Disney will be featured, with an informal, camp-ending performance for parents and friends.

FAIRYTALES AND FABLES: A CREATIVE THEATER EXPERIENCE

Student will explore a folk-tales and fables and bring them to life through the magic of creative theater. Using music, mime, dialogue,movement and visual art, students will be guided through a series of games and activities that are sure to get their creative juices flowing.

TEEN IMPROV

This camp encourages risk-taking and includes a wide variety of games and exercises designed to stimulate creativity and “in-the-moment”thinking skills. Young actors will learn techniques allowing them to dig deeper and create memorable characters, while improving confidence and communications skills in the process.

JULY 25-29

JAZZ ARTS ACADEMY CAMP

The Jazz Arts Academy at the Basie lets you learn from an all-star,all pro faculty. Students will receive comprehensive training on their instrument, and receive guidance in improvisation, music theory and jazz history. The program features group lessons, individual coaching and listening sessions, as well as master classes with visiting artists and free access to summer JazzFest™ concerts here in Red Bank. All instruments welcome and student musicians will also be invited to perform at the Jazz Arts Academy Showcase, Friday, July 29th at TwoRiver Theater.

AUDITION & INTERVIEW SAVVY

Secrets to successful auditions / interviews and standing out in a crowd are the focus of this camp. Students will become active and engaged listeners and focused speakers -- key elements in the auditioning and interview process. Whether you’re college bound or trying to break into acting, singing or dance, this class provides valuable insight into the process.

TEEN ACTING FOR FILM AND TELEVISION

In this camp, actors will learn practical skills necessary to compete in commercial acting. Using scripts from film and television, students will develop a strong, honest and nuanced line delivery. With a focus on monologue, diction and cold readings, students will develop a strong, honest and nuanced line delivery, with a style that will benefit them off-camera as well – like interview savvy, monologue and audition prep.

DIALECTS AND DICTION

Actors know the importance of speaking clearly and distinctly. This is especially true when scripts require use of an accent or dialect. In this camp, students will use scripts from plays and musicals to strengthen their abilities to speak in a number of popular dialects and accents, like British, Cockney, Irish, American Southern.

IMPROVISATION FOR KIDS

The first rule of improvisation is “yes, and…” -- meaning that anyone’s contribution is accepted without judgment. Skills acquired in this camp will prove to be valuable in any situation that require strong communication and quick-thinking. In a supportive and non-judgmental classroom, students will be encouraged to support and trust each other as they strengthen their spirit of teamwork and collaboration.

By using instruments, singing and movement, this high energy,interactive experience provides a perfect opportunity for your student’s self-expression and creativity. ALADDIN

Using music, scenes and themes of Broadway’s Aladdin, this week-long camp will immerse students into a creative adventure through the fabulous melodies and outrageous characters of this beloved Disney tale. A simple in class-demonstration will be held at week’s end for friends and family.

READER’S THEATER

Award winning playwright, director and actor Ryan Ward will guide students through a group brainstorm to write and develop a true piece of theater. The Reader’s Theater strategy combines reading practice and performance, with the goal of enhancing both reading skills and student confidence by practicing reading with a purpose. A presentation for parents and friends will be held at the end of this week-long creative camp experience.

TELLING STORIES THROUGH SONGWRITING

Through a variety of exercises and prompts, songwriter and educator Sam Levine will guide students on a musical journey to explore the process of songwriting. Students will use rhyme, meter, emotion and imagery as they write the lyrics to tell personal stories in an impactful, musical way. An informal in-class presentation for parents and friends will beheld at weeks’ end.

TELLING STORIES THROUGH VISUAL ARTS

Using the styles of daVinci, Warhol, Miro and Van Gogh, students will explore a variety of techniques to create self-portraits. InstructorBarbara Levine - recognized by the New Jersey Art Educators Association for her work in the classroom - is known for her outstanding ability to bring out the artist in every child, empowering them with knowledge and skills of self-expression. Students will create a mini-portfolio of artwork during this visually-inspiring camp session.

THINK LIKE A SHARK! CREATING A BROADWAY REVIVAL

Have you ever witnessed a Broadway revival that just didn’t get it right? We have, too. In this camp experience, students will become a creative team for a Broadway revival, tasked with creating a new vision for a beloved and well-known show. Students will then pitch the show to a mock Shark Tank-like panel of industry professionals, any of whom could potentially invest in the project. This is an exciting, well-rounded experience for budding actors, producers and directors alike!

BALLROOM DANCE FOR MUSICAL THEATER

Need to improve your ballroom dancing skills? Mastering the basics of ballroom dance and partnering skills is a huge advantage for musical theater performers. Dances like the waltz, polka, foxtrot, cha-cha, swing and the Lindy appear in just about every popular high school musical – master them on the dance floor with this seasoned professional.

MAGIC 101: UP-CLOSE

This course focuses on close-up magic skills, and the tricks used to engage and entertain an audience. Breaking the ice and pulling an audience into your act will be taught, along with a variety of illusions involving everyday objects like rubber bands, rope, playing cards and pens. A magic supply kit will be provided to each student,and no prior experience is necessary! This six-week session concludes with a public performance.
