STAGED READING WORKSHOP
Working side by side with professional actors students will rehearse for a performance for parents and friends held on the last day of the week-long camp. In a staged reading, the actors actually hold the scripts, there is minimal blocking, few set pieces and props. New works are often introduced and tested through publicly performed staged readings. The readings are followed by a talk-back, critique and a Q & A. The unique format of this week-long camp will concentrate on developing a strong understanding of characterization through the exploration of intellectual, emotional, and vocal dynamics that are often overlooked because the actors are concerned with blocking and memorization. Since the adult professionals will actually be performing with the students which adds yet another layer to this very exciting innovative camp.

This course will introduces students to a variety of chords and their functions, provides opportunities to perform repertoire in jazz blues, jazz standard, and bossa nova styles, reviews historic figures and moments in jazz, and teaches students to improvise solos, such as pentatonic and blues scales, modes and chord tone and approach notes. Students should have studied piano for at least three to four years, be able to read notes in bass and treble clef, understand basic rhythmic notation, and have a basic knowledge of music theory, including major scales, triads, and basic seventh chords and arpeggios.

You love to sing – so why not learn to sing like a pro? This class incorporate the major elements required in becoming a confident and professional vocal performer, from vocal exercises to practice techniques. Focus will be on musical theatre songs and developing dynamic performance skills.

Mr. Russo has designed a course that fits the needs of the serious young thespian interested in excelling in this art of acting. Sessions will include working on audition pieces and monologues, technique work with an introduction to the methods of Stanislavsky, Chekhov, Adler, Meisner, Strasberg and Lewis. Classes will also include yoga and/or voice and movement. This class is highly recommended for those wishing to take their craft to the next level.

SATURDAYS: ACTING FOR THE STAGE CONTINUES
It’s time to put all of your acting skills to the test! In previous classes, students have learned to articulate, project, build a character, demonstrate proper body positioning and staging, etc. In this class, students will be assigned roles in a comedy which will be performed during the final day of class on August 29. The informal performance will be open to family and friends. Come join us for some summer fun!

FAMILY DRUM CIRCLE
Celebrate family and community and discover your own beat! The values necessary in a strong community are those nurtured in a facilitated drum circle: like listening skills, respect, patience and cooperation. Discover the unifying power of rhythm and playing together to achieve higher levels of musical expression. The Family Drum Circle is recommended for anyone who can follow a rhythm – but no prior experience is necessary. Some instruments will be available or you may bring your own, found instruments like plastic buckets, tubes and water bottles are also welcome!
