LEARNING TO BE AN ACTOR

Learn the basics of becoming a bona fide stage actor with tips and tricks from a seasoned instructor, while prepping for a final performance for your family and friends. You won’t just be building acting skills -- you’ll be building confidence and honing your creative and collaboration skills.

KIDS ON STAGE

TEEN ACTING I/II FOR THE STAGE

Challenge your creative energy and bring your acting skills to a new level. Students will learn the importance of projection, articulation and rhythm in speaking the actor’s dialogue. A commitment to actions and the art of layering role interpretations with energy and flexibility will also be addressed. This class includes, script work and improvisation.

VOICEOVER TECHNIQUE

This workshop begins vocal technique basics needed to produce a natural, believable and marketable delivery. Students will gain an understanding of the importance of volume, tempo, tone and pitch and how they impact your performance. Classwork will include vocal strengthening exercises, work on diction and enunciation, plus valuable feedback on script work and cold reads. A ground-level class that’s both informative and motivating.

BROADWAY BOUND! PART II

Get those creative juices flowing! Using memorable melodies and themes from hit Broadway musicals, students will be immersed in a variety of theater games, movement activities and basic script work -- all designed to portray theater basics while instilling a sense of team work through creative play. An informal classroom presentation for parents and friends will conclude this 10-week session.

MUSICAL THEATER FOR KIDS – ACTING, VOICE AND TAP DANCE

Act, sing and dance in this new Academy class designed to teach the basics of becoming a triple-threat in musical theater. Script work, vocal techniques and tap will come into play as students gain confidence and learn a variety of new techniques and skills.

ACTING FOR TELEVISION AND FILM

Using scripts from real commercials, students will explore skills necessary for onscreen acting. Individual needs will be assessed, and classes are designed to challenge and motivate through script and monologue work, cold reads, the slating process, and reading from cue cards. Onsite video will allow students to self-assess and analyze their work.

THE TV/FILM ACTOR

This 10-week Academy class goes a bit deeper to explore the differences in acting for television and film. Though focused on commercial acting, the techniques explored will apply to all fields and challenges through monologue work, cold readings and slating. Interview and audition preparation will also be included. Ms. Oddo is also available for private instruction and coaching.

SCENE STUDY AND SCRIPT ANALYSIS: THREE PLAYS BY AUGUST WILSON

This 3-session workshop designed for actors, stage managers, playwrights, dramaturgs, and theater enthusiasts will explore and analyze three of August Wilson’s plays: Jitney, Two Trains Running, and Seven Guitars. Participants are encouraged to read the plays prior to the start of this class.

SINGING LIKE A PRO

Taught by veteran Broadway actress / singer Deb Lyons, this class is perfect for those ready to bring their vocal expertise to the next level. Mrs. Lyons philosophy says it all: “A singer is like an athlete. No baseball player or football player would think of going it alone! So for over 25 years I have studied with some of the top voice specialists and acting teachers in New York City and I bring that strength of technique to my students. Whether you’re a pro or you just find joy in singing, I offer experience and guidance in building your skills in vocal technique, stage performance, song interpretation, and auditioning.”

Popular in the Midwest and gaining momentum nationally, show choirs provide a great outlet for high- energy, music-loving singers and dancers. Unlike traditional voice classes and choirs, show choirs rely heavily on choreography to create exciting performance pieces. ROCK OUT SONGWRITING

In this creative and collaborative environment, students will write an original rock song! Class will focus on the elements of music as well as songwriting; rhythm, beat, dynamics, tempo and melody. Creating the bridge and chorus will also be introduced in this innovative class format. Class will culminate with an informal, in-class demonstration for parents and friends.

This Academy course fits the needs of serious, young thespians interested in excelling in acting.
