THEATRE BASICS I

Learn the basics of becoming a bona-fide stage actor with tips and tricks from a seasoned instructor, while prepping for a week-ending performance for your family and friends. You won’t just be building acting skills – you’ll be building confidence and honing your creative and collaboration skills.

TEEN ACTING I/II FOR THE STAGE

Challenge your creative energy and bring your acting skills to a new level.  Students will learn the importance of projection, articulation and rhythm in speaking the actor’s dialogue. A commitment to actions and the art of layering role interpretations with energy and flexibility will also be addressed. This class includes script work and improvisation.

MUSICAL THEATRE FOR KIDS – ACTING, VOICE AND TAP DANCE

Act, sing and dance in this new Academy class designed to teach the basics of becoming a triple-threat musical theatre performer. Script work, vocal techniques and tap will come into play. Students will gain confidence as they learn a variety of new techniques and skills for theatre.

ACTNG FOR TELEVISION AND FILM

Using scripts and copy from commercials, students will explore skills necessary for onscreen acting. Individual needs will be assessed, and classes are designed to challenge and motivate through script and monologue work, cold reads, reading from cue cards, and the slating process. Onsite video will allow students to self-assess and analyze their work.

THE TV/FILM ACTOR

his 10-week Academy class goes a bit deeper to explore the differences in acting for television and film. Though focused on commercial acting, the techniques explored will apply to all fields and challenges through monologue work, cold readings and slating. Interview and audition preparation will also be included.

JAZZY TODDLERS

This class features delightful songs, dances and musical activities that focus on singing and movement play. Hand percussion instruments, puppets and colorful props make this a perfect opportunity for exploration and learning.

ROCKING BIG KIDS

Research shows that kids involved in musical activities become better math and reading students, have higher self-esteem and develop a greater sense of self-control. This ‘Mommy & Me’ class introduces your child to music by promoting sharing and socialization through engaging musical games, rhymes and stories. Percussion instruments - which help develop coordination and motor skills – will also be used.

Get those creative juices flowing! Using memorable melodies and themes from hit Broadway musicals, students will be immersed in a variety of theatre games, movement activities and basic script work -- all designed to portray theatre basics while instilling a sense of team work through creative play. An informal classroom presentation for parents and friends will conclude this 10-week session.

Do you love the music from Wicked, Hairspray, Sister Act, Spring Awakening and Next to Normal?  Bring your music to class and Broadway's Deb Lyons (Smokey Joe's Cafe, Jekyll & Hyde) will work on your acting and story-telling of the song.  She'll also help you choose the best songs for auditions! Whether it's pop or theater, you’ll learn how to sing like a pro, work a mic and the stage and capture your audience.

ACTING: INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED FOR TEENS

This Academy course fits the needs of serious young thespians interested in excelling in acting. Sessions will include working on audition pieces and monologues, plus technique work with an introduction to the methods of Stanislavsky, Chekov, Adler, Meisner, Strasberg and Lewis. Classes will also include yoga, voice and movement, and are recommended only to those students interested in bringing their acting skills to the next level.

BROADWAY BALLROOM DANCE WORKSHOP

Need to improve your ballroom dancing skills? Mastering the basics of ballroom dance is a huge advantage to the musical theatre performer. Dance types like the waltz, polka, foxtrot, cha-cha, swing, and lindy are used in just about every high school musical, and this workshop will teach the basics of these dance styles, plus basic partnering work, turns and spins.

LATIN BALLROOM NIGHT

THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ

We’re definitely not in Kansas anymore! Follow our yellow brick road to a theatrical adventure, as our Academy instructor leads this fun dramatics class that includes singing, dance and crafts…all themed after the wonderful Wizard of Oz!

SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS

Happy, Grumpy, Sneezy, Dopey, the wicked stepmother….all of these characters and their personalities come to life in this creative dramatics workshop. It’s a perfect place for young actors beginning to understand human emotion, and learning to incorporate these expressions into characterization. This Academy offering is an excellent introduction to the art of becoming an actor.
