TEEN CREATIVE CABARET... FOR A CAUSE

Ages: 12-18

Directors: Christopher Tomaino & Amy Fredericks

Cabaret is about intimacy and interaction, breaking down the theatrical "fourth wall" and exploring significant diversity in musical, emotional and performance styles. The content of any cabaret and the cabaret genre itself is always an act of reinvention -- whether it be remaking a performer's signature style, reimagining a cliché show tune for new effect, or even reinventing the genre itself.

This audition-based performance workshop for singer / actor dynamos will form a troupe to not only offer performance opportunity at the Basie Academy, but also to visit a variety of social service organizations and senior residences. It's a perfect opportunity for performers to gain community service hours.

Music and themes of popular Broadway musicals will be used (Hairspray, Ragtime, West Side Story, The Color Purple, Fiddler on the Roof, 1776, etc), and performers will create a kaleidoscope of songs and video projections that tell the story of the hardships and triumphs that face humanity, under the direction and guidance of Educator/Performer, Christopher Tomaino, and musical direction by Amy Fredericks, with culminating performances that will impact audience members in a positive and uplifting way, while enhancing the actors' own performance style.

Auditions: Tues. Sept. 13 & Fri. Sept. 16: 5:30 - 8:30pm (Call 732-224-8778 x 125 to schedule an audition. Prepare a song that demonstrates your ability to connect to the lyrics, along with a resume and headshot if available.)
