The Count Basie Theatre’s educational mission is to provide a foundation of cultural enrichment to students of all ages and economic levels. These efforts include arts instruction and coursework, plus unique programs like professional development for teachers and bus-in programs for students in underprivileged school districts. Class incorporates basic acting skills, projecting and speaking techniques, theatre games and basic theatre vocabulary. This is the perfect introductory class for young actors. Class has proven as a perfect vehicle in helping students to gain confidence while learning to work as a team.

THE TV/FILM ACTOR
Using scripts from commercials, film and television, students will explore skills necessary for on-screen acting. Students will gain an understanding of the differences in acting for the camera and performing live. Developing self expression, clear diction and a confident, focused attitude are goals that will be addressed in this session.

IMPROVISATION FOR KIDS
This one day workshop will be offered twice during our spring term. Students will learn the basics of comedy improvisation and how to experiment with a variety of “choices.” Improvisation is great fun for all ages, and a great way to develop self-confidence and the ability to think on your feet -- an important life skill for everyone.

MACBETH... MURDER, MYSTERY, MAYHEM TWO-SESSION WORKSHOP
William Shakespeare’s Macbeth is considered one of his darkest and most powerful tragedies. The play dramatizes the corrosive psychological and political effects produced when evil is chosen as a way to fulfil one’s ambition for power. In this workshop students will be immersed into the Elizabethan world as they unravel the words of the Bard and delve into the motivating influences behind each character. Participants should bring a prepared monologue.
