The Basie’s Music Performance Programs
The Count Basie Theatre’s Performing Arts Academy is home to the region’s most popular and comprehensive music performance programs.
The Rockit! Live Academy is the Count Basie Theatre’s resident rock and roll performance program. Helmed by the Rockit! Live Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Rockit! runs four, seven-week group programs per year, where kids aged 8-10 learn a specific repertoire of songs, supplemented with individual instruction. At the conclusion of their session, as many as forty-five young musicians divvy up to form separate groups to perform live on the Asbury Park Press stage at the historic Count Basie Theatre, replete with high-production gear and lighting. In addition to its quarterly sessions and live concerts, Rockit! also offers an annual, week-long session as part of the Basie Performing Arts Academy’s summer camps.
Rockit! students have performed with Steven Van Zandt, Jon Bon Jovi, Bobby Bandiera, Max Weinberg, Carmen Appice and others.
The Rockit! Live Foundation’s Summer session concludes with a high-profile, live performance on the Asbury Park Press Stage at the Count Basie Theatre on Saturday, August 26th.
Auditions for the summer session happen on Saturday, July 1st, between 10am and 8pm. Reserve your spot by calling 732-224-8778 x125
